We love animals, but we were a little shocked when one of our customers brought to our attention the animal designs on some of our products.
"I'm disappointed that they have been designed & printed with decorations on their backs" one customer wrote, "which are outdated to a time when elephants were used (& indeed abused) by people riding on them etc."
We wrote to our suppliers asking for their comment on this, here's what they had to say:
"we feel that the design of the elephant is simply a recognised traditional design and that is why it was chosen. Of course we in no way condone abuse or mis-treatment of animals."
However we couldn't help agree with our customer, Lady M J Black. We realised that, at this moment in time, we were unable to get the designs changed so decided that instead we would donate 5% of the sale price of every elephant item sold to an elephant charity.
The chosen charity was selected by our very own customer Lady M J Black, she chose Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and here are some more details about the wonderful charity:
The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust embraces all measures that complement the conservation, preservation and protection of wildlife and habitats.
Working across Kenya, our projects include anti-poaching, safe guarding the natural environment, enhancing community awareness, addressing animal welfare issues, providing veterinary assistance to animals in need, rescuing and hand rearing elephant and rhino orphans, along with other species that can ultimately enjoy a quality of life in wild terms when grown.
You can find out more about them and show your support by going to their website: https://www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/
When you see this logo on an elephant product you know that 5% of the sale price will be donated to Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.
